Executive Functioning Card Games

The Executive Functioning Games  features Dr. Warren's 4 EF card Games: In or Out, No Match Penguins, Focus and Memory Master.  All these games are fun and engaging for everyone, but they can also serve as cognitive remedial exercises that strengthen executive functioning skills: working memory, management of distractions, attention to detail, stamina, response inhibition, as well as sustaining attention and mental shifting.

The research suggests we are not born with executive functioning skills, however, we have the potential to develop these abilities.  Just like going to the gym can strengthen the body, these card games exercise cognition.  According to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, “When children have opportunities to develop executive function and self-regulation skills, individuals and society experience lifelong benefits. These skills are crucial for learning and development. They also enable positive behavior and allow us to make healthy choices for ourselves and our families.”

Multisensory Teaching: The Eclectic Teaching Approach

This digital download offers instruction, workshop materials, handouts as well as the Eclectic Learning Profile, a reproducible inventory that helps teachers better understand the diverse learning needs of their students. The Eclectic Teaching Approach integrates the theories of cognitive styles, information processing, multiple intelligences, and multisensory learning to uncover the 12 diverse ways of processing and encoding information.  All of these learning modalities lay on a continuum, and individuals have preferred ways of learning based on cognitive strengths as well as exposure to each methodology.  By embracing this theory of learning, teachers, therapists, parents and even employers can be more mindful of and empowering in instruction and work expectations.  Then, by evaluating preferences with the Eclectic Learning Profile, they can tailor instruction and assignments for optimal results.
